The magnificent Tengile River Lodge, situated in the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve within the iconic Kruger National Park, is a brand-new wilderness haven where nature lovers can experience some of the finest Big Five experiences on the African continent.

Sabi Sands is accessible via scheduled flights to the Kruger/Mpumalanga International Airport near Mbombela (Nelspruit),followed by either a light-aircraft flight or road transfer.

The most direct and convenient access to this lodge is provided by daily SA Air link flights to the Skukuza airstrip in the Kruger National Park, followed by a leisurely drive to the camp.

Tengile River Lodge

The main lodge building is a graceful and ultra-modern structure with beautiful clean lines and shaded decks. It comprises of a comfortable lounge and bar area, main dining room and a shaded deck area with plush sofas, in which to relax while watching the animal activity down at the river. The earthy yet very modern and elegant decor, creates an ambiance of understated luxury and tranquility. It truly is a pristine safari bush haven on the African continent.

The lodge offers guest opulent accommodation in 9 spacious floating suites, all with sunken outdoor lounges and private decks with lap pools, creating exclusive private havens in the open bush.

Children 12 years and older. Two suites with inter-leading doors can accommodate a family of two adults and two children.

Located in the shade of a riverine forest, all the decks have beautiful views. The elegant interiors of each suite are further complimented by an en-suite bathroom with bathtub and indoor-and outdoor shower, as well as bathroom amenities.

GAME DRIVES

Guest can enjoy early-morning and late afternoon/early-evening game drives in open safari vehicles.Your experienced ranger and tracker will utilise their expert knowledge to track your favourite animals. The SabiSand Game Reserve is well known for its leopard sightings,and youmight just be lucky enough tospot one of these elusive cats feasting in a treeafter a successful night hunt. In the early morning the bush is at its most active, as the animals go abouttheir daily business before the heat sets in. Upon your return to camp you can indulge in a scrumptious brunch.In the late afternoon, as the bush begins to cool down from the onslaught of the sun, you will once again set out in search for the Big Five -lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino. This is the perfect opportunity to enjoy the magic of an African sunset, whilst enjoying a refreshing cocktail at a scenic spot in the bush. And then, when the sun dips its head behind the horizon, it is time to take out the spotlight. Nocturnal creates now come out to play and the sight of a pair of eyes glaring back in the spotlight is a thrill like no other. All the adrenaline will work up an appetite, and you will be ready to sit down for a scrumptious supper. Here, amid friendly banter and superb food and wine, strangers become friends as they share their bush experiences around the open fire. Tengile’s professionally trained guides will ask you about your favourite wildlife species and will do their best to ensure suitable sightings, whether it is tracking a particular species or spending more time enjoying each sighting and getting to know the habits of the animals. They will also share information about the area’s fauna and flora that will leave you in awe.

LUXURY WALKING SAFARI

For the more adventurous, a walking safari offers a unique perspective of the wilderness, as it enables participants to interacting with all its inhabitants-from the largest to the smallest-in a whole new way. Feel the bush under your feet and walk in the spoor of zebra and buffalo. This bush walk will engage all your senses and will touch your soul. It is a guaranteed thrill-a-minute which will open up a whole new perspective on nature and its wonders. Your armed and knowledgeable ranger will take you right into the magical heart of wild Africa.  

INTERPRETIVE NATURE WALKS

Accompanied by your ranger, you can also enjoy an interpretive nature walk around the lodge, during which you will discover fascinating facts about the area’s fauna and flora,and even meet some of the smaller wildlife species up close.  

TRACKING AT THE TENGILE RIVER LODGE

Experience the thrill of tracking animals-including the Big Five -on foot, accompanied by an armed specialist ranger and tracker team. You will discover a whole new world in which each sound, scent and bent blade of grass has a special significance! PHOTOGRAPHIC SAFARIS

Designed for photography enthusiasts, Tengile Safari Lodge’s expert guides will use their extensive wildlife experience, as well as their wealth of knowledge on birding and landscape photography,to assist you in getting that once-in-a-lifetime shot up close. They will teach you about aspects such as shutter speed,lenses and filters and will create the best angles so as to optimize your chances for getting that perfect shot. Combining their understanding of animal behavior with their photography skills, this safari is highly recommended for both novice and experienced photographers.* Additional costs apply.  

BIRD WATCHING

Tengile is a bird-watcher’s haven as it boasts over 300 species, such as the hawk eagle, black-crowned night heron, emerald cuckoo, and Shelley’s francolin, to name but a few. A magical world awaits on the other side of your binoculars!  

PRIVATE SAFARI

Guests can also book your own private safari vehicle for the duration of your stay. This affords them the opportunity to design their own safari experience. The vehicle comes with a dedicated game ranger and tracker.* Additional costs apply.  

PRIVATE VEHICLE

4 x 4 access not required. Kruger National Park has 9 entrances on its South African border and 2 on its Mozambican border. Paul Kruger Gate is the nearest entrance to Rhino Walking Safaris.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

  • Children 12 years and older are permitted at the lodge. Two inter-leading suites are available for families. There are no triple room options.
  • All rates are inclusive of VAT and in South African Rand.
  • Accommodation rates are per person per night sharing
  • Park and Conservancy Fees are an additional cost, and subject to change.
  • A single supplement of 50% applies from the first single room throughout the year. A single supplement will be charged when an adult is sharing with an infant.
  • Triple rooms are not available at &Beyond Tengile River Lodge due to vehicle availability
  • Private 4×4 safari vehicles can be pre-booked at certain lodges for an additional cost, subject to availability.
  • All pricing is indicative and subject to exchange rate fluctuations.
  • Unmanned Aerial Vehicles: Please be advised that the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (Drones) is not allowed in any of the conservation areas we manage, until such time as their impact on wildlife and anti-poaching initiatives can be assessed. This rule will apply throughout Africa, as our partners in various countries and regions have adopted a similar stance.
